Amsterdam

About Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and is located in the west of the country, in the province of North Holland. The city is built around canals constructed in the 17th century. These canals form a kind of circle around the old city center. Narrow, tall houses with beautiful facades stand along the canals—many of these buildings date back to the Golden Age.

The city is divided into several neighborhoods, each with its own unique atmosphere. In the city center, you'll find Dam Square with the Royal Palace, many shops, and cozy cafés. The Jordaan is a well-known neighborhood with narrow streets, small shops, and terraces. On the south side lies Museumplein, with famous museums such as the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.

Amsterdam is also known for its many bicycles—there are more bicycles than inhabitants! There are cycle paths, bridges, and squares everywhere. The city is also surrounded by water, so many people also travel by boat.

What makes Amsterdam unique is that it feels large, yet is very cozy and manageable. It is a city full of history, culture and life, where old buildings and modern places fit together well.
