Many indirect flights fly via Canada or the USA.
If you have booked such a flight, remember that you need a visa (ESTA for America and an ETA for Canada).
Arrange this in time because without it you will not get on the plane!
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months when you leave Mexico.
It is useful to check it because even then you will not get on the plane.
The currency used in Mexico is Mexican peso (mxn).
Often you can also pay with dollars at the hotels and shops. Everywhere we have been we saw ATMs so plenty of opportunity to withdraw cash. (just check the payment settings of your card to see if it is set to worldwide)
At some accommodations you can only pay by credit card. Even if you want to book a flight on domestic flights through local airlines.
Extra tip: Scan your important documents and keep them in your e-mail inbox.
